How much of a problem is it if my hubby has a 103.5 fever?
His mom is really worried and wants him to go to the emergency room, but he wants to wait till tomorrow and see the regular doctor. Is 103.5 really dangerous or will he be OK till morning?

Editor answers:
I am not sure whats to dangerous. But when I was I kid I had a bad fever to hot said I could die. They took me to the hospital and put me in a tub of icy cold water to cool me down, it worked and lowered my tempature to a safe tempature. We could of did the same thing at home, that will lower his tempature. I hardly remember I was young but wasn’t fun I was freezing in icy water but it had to be done.

Robert asks…
what is the temperature in degrees Celsius of a person with a fever of 103.5 degrees fahrenheit.?
Put the answer into two decimals places.

Editor answers:
39.72 deg. C

Nancy asks…
Can a 103.5 fever and a painful headache cause brain damage?
I am 15 years old and I had a painful headache a few days ago and a high fever, and I am wonder if that can have caused brain damage. If the fever is not high enough for that, can the headache have cause any in addition to the fever? It’s my 10th day being sick and I am just coughing with no fever or any other symptoms. What are the minimal slightest symptoms of brain damage? What are the symptoms of severe brain damage?

Editor answers:
No. It’s not likely unless the fever is higher than 107°. Why do you think you could have brain damage? The cough is probably normal even though you’re not sick anymore.
And as to what are the severe brain damages symptoms. I doubt you’d be able to be able to word a question, let apart go to your computer and type it, if you had any.

Carol asks…
How can I get rid of a fever quickly without going to the doctor’s?
I’ve had a fever for the past one and half days. It was at 103.5 then it dropped now at 100.1 and then one hour later it went up to 101.4. As of right now i’m taking tylenol 1000mg every 4-6 hrs and dimetapp cold and allergy since I do got other symptoms such as runny nose and eyes. And also sore throat kinda. Im allergic to a lot of medications…Can anyone help me? I need to get rid of the fever hopefully for tomorrow night.

Editor answers:
Make sure your cold medicine doesn’t also contain tylenol or acetaminophen, it’s generic name. You don’t want to accidentally OD on Tylenol, it’ll mess up your liver.
Sounds like you’re doing the right thing about treating your fever. Make sure you drink plenty of liquids, cause when you have a fever your body burns up more liquids.
There’s no telling when your temp and symptoms will get better, a virus can last to 7 days. Virus’s get bettter with time and symptomatic treatment. No medicine (besides cold eeze and the like) will help it go away quicker. Some people say Ecchinacia helps,. But studies show it doesn’t. Vit C won’t hurt, but most studies say it doesn’t help either. So, if you get worse, make sure you seek treatment. It’s a good sign the overall temp is lower. Temps do tend to spike in the late afternoon. Good luck hope you feel better sooon!

Charles asks…
What can I eat the first 17 days of the 17 day diet?
I really am interested in the 17 Day Diet as seen on Dr. Phil but can’t afford to buy the book right now. Does anyone know what things I can eat for the first 17 days? I will try and get this book after the first of the year.

Editor answers:
The 17 day diet is simply a crash diet. The first 17 days you eat NO carbs. You only eat low carb veggies, eggs, and meat and drink water. The weight simply falls off due to lack of carbs which is the main bodies source of fuel. The next 17 days you slowly add in carbs but you maintain, on this diet you will always need to be carb conscious and the first 17 days are the only days you lose any weight. So if you need to lose more that 15lbs I wouldn’t recomend this diet.

Joseph asks…
I am going to start the 17 day diet next week. Can I have protein shakes and bars on this diet?
The bars and shakes are low carbs.

Editor answers:
Yes, you can use them as a meal replacement. I use a bar and a whey shake from http://www.buybulkwhey.com and it works great with eating a well balanced diet as well.

Jenny asks…
What is the 17 day diet? Does it work?
I just heard about this 17 day diet and was wondering if it has worked for anyone? Do I have to buy the book or is the diet posted somewhere? I really don’t want to spend the money on something that may not work. Thanks

Editor answers:
SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!!, all it teaches you is to eat more fruits and veggies, drink more water and cut out the carbs. And portion control, you can easily do that your self with out the book.

Susan asks…
I was wondering if anyone has bought the new 17 Day Diet that was shown on Dr. Phil a few weeks ago?
I’m considering buying it, but I’ve spent so much money on diet books I’d like to get some information on it first. I was wondering if it has a lot of hard to find foods listed in it, and also if it has recipes. And, of course, if it has worked for anyone? Thanks in advance.

Editor answers:
Mazey,
I get such a kick out of the names of the diets. What happens on day 18? Do you go back to how you ate before? Losing weight is a life style change. No magic diets or pills, no fairy godmother to anoint you with a new body. And, here’s the hard part… It takes… Wait for it… Work. We’ve not been taught good healthy eating habit so consequently we’re mostly fat and without a solution.
There are a couple of things you can do.
Firstly, eat a balanced diet for your individual metabolism type, the right proportions of proteins, fats and complex carbs. You can find out about your type for free at several sites on the Internet or you can type in Google “easydietforlife diet-assessment” without the quote marks to get to a good one.
I would suggest being active rather than exercising. Walk for 30 minutes, swim, ride a bike, that sort of thing. You could even check out burst training, it’s real quick and very effective.
If you want to learn how your body functions so you can eat properly for the rest of your life read the ebook “GOING FAT2Lean.”
You will get how our bodies function, just how Mother Nature intended us to feed them.
What you can do immediately is the following:
*Stop drinking all sodas
*Drink half your weight in ounces of water daily
*Stay away from all “white” foods (they are simple carbs that turn into glucose easily) – bread, pasta, white rice, white potatoes.
*Eat three meals a day and 3 snacks a day.
*Don’t eat anything 3 hours before going to sleep.
*Don’t eat any fast food
*Shop around the perimeter of your market. Stay away from packaged foods.
*Take a good multi-vitamin, omega-3, CoQ10, and a good antioxidant every day.
*Do not count calories. It’s a myth. The body counts nutrition.
Keep us posted!
Good luck,
RICK

What’s the best way to get good last minute deals on vacations?
I want to go on a one week vacation the second week in august. I’m having a hard time deciding where, because my original plans fell through. I heard you can sometimes get really good deals if you book something the last minute.
Has anyone ever done this before ?
Is there a good website?
I checked out lastminutetravel.com, it seems to have some cool stuff.
It’s me and my girlfriend and we are looking to spend less than $1000 each on flight and hotel.
Give me some suggestions !

Editor answers:

Any last minute deals for a solo cruise traveler?
I live in the US ( NY, NY) and have two weeks off. I’ve never been on a cruise and would love to go , the only thing is that I don’t really find anything catered to solo travelers here in the US. You’re either charged double occupancy or some other ridiculous tax. I’m looking for last minute deals, mainly to the Caribbean and would like some help.
Thanks!

Editor answers:
Your correct that solo cruisers pay just about double and last minute cruises are rarely cheaper then if you book way in advance. Anyways, go to the web site cruisecritic.com and there you will see a section on single cruisers. That may help you. Also some single cruisers will hook up with another single person to share a cabin. That may be an option for you too.

Lisa asks…
Is it true that you can great last minute deals on cruises?
I’ve heard that you can get great last minute deals on cruises if you are in town the day before or the day of departure.
A) Is it true?
B) Are there any websites or newspapers that you can find information about the deals?

Editor answers:
In the old days you could but not since 911 happened, you can’t Cruise ships must have a passenger list 72 hours before the departure of a cruise ship. It is a homeland security rule now. So any cruise less then 5 days from now d is not possible to get on board at the last minute. But for more then 72 hours and last minute cruise deals check into “Vacations to go” and click on their 90 day ticker. These are all the cruise that still have cabins for the next 90 days.

Paul asks…
Where can I find cheap last minute deals on flights leaving Bangkok?
I’m in Thailand right now. I want to travel somewhere for the next week or so, but don’t have a clear idea in mind of where I want to go.
Rather than clicking through hundreds of locations one by one I would like to find a list of last minute deals on flights from Bangkok to anywhere that I could choose from. Ideally these would be flights leaving withing the next couple of days.

Michael asks…
Convincing my boyfriend to let me lose weight without complaints?
I’m 17 and my boyfriend of almost 9 months is 18. I’m 5’6″ and weigh 170-175 pounds. I want to get down to at least 140. I’ve already lost 2-4lbs in the past week or two because I’ve been taking a homemade ECA stack (ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin.)
The problem is that my boyfriend is not supportive of my weight loss goals. He thinks the ideal girl weighs 180-190 pounds. He loves my stomach and every time I come over and it’s smaller he is sad. It’s very discouraging because I am extremely insecure, especially with all this weight on. It makes me wear baggy, ugly clothes, which I don’t like because I think it makes me look like a dyke, which is not the image I want to put out. I want to look feminine and wear cute tops and skirts without being too self-conscious. I know part of his problem is that I have a very bad self-image and have been anorexic and bulimic in the past, and it scares him that I might go back to being unhealthy like that. When I lose weight it may be hard or impossible to stop at a healthy weight. But honestly, I think it’s just as bad to be overweight as underweight.
I love him and want to respect his feelings, but I need to lose this weight. How can I convince him to be supportive?
He doesn’t take issue with how I lose weight, he takes issue with the fact that I will be thinner. To him I would be too thin if I were under 150 pounds. And he still complains if I lose any weight at all.
Also, I know taking pills isn’t the way to lose the weight for good. But I’m in a rut and need a kick start to encourage me. I’m going to lose the stack after I lose 10-15lbs and am set in a diet and exercise routine.

Editor answers:
Explain to him that, while he may find you attractive, you don’t feel pretty. Tell him that you really need his support with this, and that you have no intentions of reverting back to your unhealthy ways. Ask him for help in making sure that you lose the weight the right way. Ask him to go on walks with you, play at the park with you.
If he can’t understand and support (regardless if he agrees) then he’s only bringing you down. You may love him, but if he can’t understand that you aren’t happy, and is willing to ask that you remain unhappy because he doesn’t see a problem with your size and how it makes you feel, then I suggest finding a workout buddy and spending time with them. I’m not saying you should find another boyfriend, I’m talking actual workout buddy.
Weight loss in relationships are hard. It can create discomfort and suspicion. However, if he can’t support you, make a friend with someone who will, and spend more of your time with them.
No matter what’s going on in your life, you should always feel good about yourself. If you don’t like what you see, change it. Only you have the power and the say-so. Just do it safely.
Good luck!

Helen asks…
Does anyone else think this?
Women always complain about this from their perspective but I never hear this complaint about women. Does anyone else think that the media is giving women images of what the “perfect” guy should be, and that women are living by that? I was talking to one girl that essentially told me that she was waiting for a guy with rock-hard abs, classic good looks, and a personality to match. A little unrealistic, don’t you agree? I think that Hollywood and the media have given women that idea that the “ideal” guy is Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom, and that going for anyone else would be “settling” instead of waiting for that perfect guy to come along. I mean, honestly, I don’t mean to stereotype, but most of the guys with rock-hard abs that I know can’t carry on a conversation any longer than they can carry the tens digit in a math problem. I’ve heard all of my life that women develop earlier than men, but looking around….I’m not so sure.
Guys seem to be accepting the fact that most women are not supermodels a lot sooner than todays women are accepting the fact that all men do not look like Brad Pitt. Isn’t it going to be sad years from now when the women finally realize this and try to go for the guys they were missing out on, but they’ve all settled down?

Editor answers:
I think television gives everybody an unrealistic portrayal of men and women. It is unrealistic to believe that you will find that perfect ken doll, but I do believe it’s possible to find someone who you think is perfect but may not be brad pitt. It’s almost like they are not perfect but they become perfect to you because you see through there flaws (i.e. Like not so perfect teeth) and like them for their personality and the fun they bring to your life. I guess I used to be superficial, until I experienced a relationship where I cared more about the person than there looks. About the developing, I think it depends on the person and their experiences.

Thomas asks…
What is the ideal first Motorcycle for someone my size? I am 6’1″, 225lbs.?
I have never ridden a Motorcycle before, and as I should, I am taking a BRC to learn the ropes to riding a motorcycle. I have driven mopeds before, so I do kind of know what to expect as far as riding goes.
I want to get a bike, so have have been looking around and I recently sat on the HD Sportster, which would be a great first bike, except for the fact that I felt very cramped and oversized for the bike. I have looked at the HD Street Bob or Fat Boy as a first, but my concerns are cost and size.
I don’t want to buy a bike that is inexpensive, but too small for me that I will outgrow quickly, but I also don’t want to spend a lot on one that is the right size either. I have only looked at Harley’s because I like the image it protrays, and I also like the look of the Street Bob and Fat Boy, but is there something else out there (other Harley’s or non-Harley’s) that may be similar in size accomodation for me, but less expensive and as just as nice looking to consider?
Pls Hlp

Editor answers:
V-Star 650 would probably satisfy for the first few months or so but as you get your “sea-legs” your eyes will start wondering back to the Fatboy or Softail. Unless you get a great price on a used V-Star, might as well forego the buy-n-sell hassles and fork up the extra bucks for a nice HD.

Helen asks…
Nikon Vs Canon… Technique, Processing, or Camera.?
Ok, so I am an aspiring nature photographer. I am stumped as to why my images do not come out creamy smooth but still sharp like this image taken with a canon.
My Image: http://www.dajdesignsphotography.com/p750373704/h358b2309#h358b2309
Ideal Image: http://www.occhiuzzophoto.com/p1046687728/e35e8d53#h1a84f9c7
I shoot with a nikon, the “ideal image” was shot with a canon. I suppose another variable could be grade/cost of lens, but I really do not want to chalk it up to that. My image was taken at 300mm through a Nikkor, his was at 310mm through an unknown lens. Am I simply out of luck because I own a nikon?
My image was shot in aperture priority mode at f/5.6 and 1/200sec using the nikon nikkor 70-300mm G lens and a D70 body. I have since upgraded to a D90 body and 70-300mm ED VR lens. I also know more about stopping down the lens so I would have taken this at f/8.0 assuming the lighting conditions allowed for a fast enough shutter speed. Do you really believe the difference lies in f stops and shutter speeds?

Editor answers:
What Nikon are you shooting with.
What are the settings etc etc
It is certainly NOT just because you are shooting with a Nikon.
I don’t know about the entry level cameras but the top range cameras of Canon and Nikon are comparable, with Nikon shading it on noise.
It is more than likely your technique and processing but without seeing larger versions and more information it is impossible to say.

Maria asks…
Based on this criteria (inside) what digital camera would you recommend for me?
I am 18 years old and on a budget. I would say I could spend $250 max, but would like to keep it under $180. Cheaper than $120 would be ideal.
Cost is a big issue (dorm living puts me at a higher risk of theft and I don’t want to lose anything of particularly high value), but photos of a decent quality are a must. 5mp minimum.
I am going to start a photo-a-day image journal, so it must be durable and compact. I’ll be taking it everywhere.
Must also be user-friendly. I know my way around a computer and can figure out most electronics, but I am in no way a techie. I need something simple. Point and click to take photos and easily upload them onto a comp. That’s what I need.
In short:
-inexpensive
-quality photos
-compact
-durable
-simple

Editor answers:
I’ve had two Canon Digital Elphs. They’re about the smallest camera you can get, they’re point-and-click, and the quality is great:

I have that exact camera, actually, and I have no complaints! (It’s good for recording video, too)
However, I also wrote reviews for these cameras, if you’re interested (I’m E. Kay):

Daniel asks…
I have an ideal on the ‘stimulus’ package?
Since the liberal spenders and Hussein Obama are so convinced that spending a trillion tax dollars on pools, condoms, Amtrak etc will get everything going again, why not offer this compromise.
Let those who oppose, oppose, If it works, all who oppose, would resign at the next election in 2 years.
If it fails, then everyone who voted for it, would resign including Obama. But with this in mind, if you support it and it fails, the total cost would be repaid by those who voted for it. All 825,000,000,000 dollars of it.
Each one, would forfeit all retirement, all Social Security, everything they posses would be sold at auction with all proceeds going to pay it back, All bank accounts, all homes, all cars. Sure we would never get a fraction of the money back, But hey, if they are so sure it will work, what do they have to worry about?
If it does, then they get a new batch of people who they will be able to mold in their own image so for a time the opposition would be nonexistent.
Do you think they have the guts to put THEIR money where their mouth is? It’s easy to spend that much when its not you paying the bill.

Editor answers:
His reward special interest bill is $900 billion.
Estimated US pop is 304 million.
Better to send everyone a check for $2960 and let us do with it as we see fit.
Better yet. Stop taxing our incomes, and let us use that money as we see fit.
Paying higher taxes is not patriotic, it’s idiotic.

Why is America so committed to the ideal image of beauty?
Who is affected by the obsession of ideal body image?
How are they affected?
Why are they affected?
What are the consequences of their obsession?
Who and/or what are/is the cause and why?
When did the theory of ideal beauty begin?
What are the solutions? If any

Editor answers:
America becomes a visual culture,
Body is the main mirror of man,
Body culture and fisioculturism change bodies,
Narciscism, egocentrism, self-centerism, and the non beauty person are seen as second class citizens.
The visual culture, where look is paramount.
It starts by the born of cinema, and tv, in the 80 was a fever, because it became a commercial product, tapes, magazine, manufactured, make up, it so huge this industry, billions of dollars are made per year.
In the Ancient Greek, Narciso fable.
Each one accept himself as he or she is, but it is impossible, because all midia is involved in it.

Michael asks…
What do you think the ideal body image is?
1) What do you think the ideal body image is?
2) What do stereotypes place on teens?

Editor answers:
Well, since the advent of the Fashion industry’s love of models like Twiggy (basically a walking coat hanger) thin was in. Historically speaking however, ivory and alabaster skin was the big thing for status- the less you had to work outside, the richer and the better off you were. The ideal figures were (and to most artists) the Rubenesque figure. The emphasis on “figure” over position or substance of a person is fairly new.
I think the stereotypes are a form of programming.

Helen asks…
How did rappers become the ideal image for all black men?
We bypassed Michael Eric Dyson, Cornell West, Lamont Hill, Tavis Smiley, Roland Martin,Don lemon and other intelligent black men as an representation or ideal black man. But Gucci, Plies, and other talentless gangster rappers are the ideal and quintessential black man.
When you are debating or bring up the subject about black men. The names I had mentioned are not brought at all. They are simple ignored but they will bring up rappers. Why?

Editor answers:
Because they see how the media hypes them up, and they want that same “respect” (since it really isn’t respect)
remember whites control the media, and therefore they will only show negativity towards blacks…and if you do it for so long, some black people become brainwashed, and believe to be black and popular you have to be negative
I’m sorry but most of these rappers they idolize are not positive role models
TBH
any entertainer isn’t a positive role model

Laura asks…
Do you think that if you achieve your ideal body image, life will dramatically improve?
Does anyone else have the belief that if/when they lose weight and achieve the ideal body image that you have in your mind, life will improve? For example, do you hear yourself thinking, ‘once i get the body i want, i’ll be more confident, i’ll be more attractive to the opposite sex and i’ll meet someone’? Are you expecting a body transformation to dramatically change your life in the future?
I have these feelings, i’m not obese but i have got excess weight that i’ve had for ages. Can’t wait to get rid of it.

Editor answers:
YES & NO, I’ve lost weight twice, 1st, after my son,was a size 22, 248lbs at 5’7 tall, for almost 10 months I had high-blood pressure so, I had to lose weight for my health, lost 114lbs in 14 months, swimming, doing resistive yoga & eating very well. Then after my youngest, I gained 90lbs. Got terrified & stopped eating, had a bite of anorexia, learned better, got better/healthier, lost the 90 lbs. In 8 months.and I’ve been fit ever since, I didn’t like the way people looked at me after as much as I thought, I found myself having to have to show my intelligence a lot more and that’s really sad.
Good, effective weight-lost takes dedication, patience & courage because it hurts but is truly the best reward when you do it yourself, naturally, it’s also very good for your mind.

Depilatories
How They Work: A depilatory is a cream or liquid that removes hair from the skin’s surface. They work by reacting with the protein structure of the hair, so the hair dissolves and can be washed or wiped away.
How Long They Last: Several days to 2 weeks
Pros: Depilatories work quickly, are readily available at drugstores and grocery stores, and are inexpensive. They’re best on the leg, underarm, and bikini areas; special formulations may be used on the face and chin.
Cons: Applying depilatories can be messy and many people dislike the odor. If you have sensitive skin, you might have an allergic reaction to the chemicals in the depilatory, which may cause a rash or inflammation. Depilatories may not be as effective on people with coarse hair.
Tips: Read product directions carefully and be sure to apply the product only for the recommended amount of time for best results. Before using a depilatory on pubic hair, read product labels to find one that says it’s safe to use on the “bikini” area or genitals.

Charles asks…
What is the best hair removal product?
I have tried tons of hair removal products, but none work. I have sensitive skin, so I get really bad razor burn whenever I shave, but all the hair removal creams I’ve ever used also give me a rash. In addition, they hardly ever work because I have really thick hair.
Does anyone know an extra-strength, sensitive skin hair removal product. (Oh, and laser hair removal isn’t an option.)

Editor answers:
I suggest try those brands that’s labeled for sensitive skin and if you try another product. Make sure to test it first at the back of your hand for 30 minutes and if redness and skin irritation occurs then use a diff product.

Body Hair?
I have a hairy chest/ stomach and top of my back. I am considering getting the back hairs waxed at a local beauty therapist. Should I go the whole hog and get rid of the chest hairs? What is the concensus of opinion on male body hair?

Editor answers:
Personally I don’t like any body hair on a ribcage up (apart from armpit hair and well, head-hair). I don’t know, it’s just one of those things that I wish I could but am not attracted to!
But you shouldn’t get rid of it according to popular opinion on Yahoo! Answers! Do whatever you feel comfortable with. Look on the bright side too, all hair will grow back no matter what you do to it!
The girl who said back/crack/sack is fun… Haha, QFT. 8D
Good luck.

Ruth asks…
Body hair?
I have noticed an increase in hair all over my body other than the obvious spots. Its not on my face (luckilly) but more on my torso and hands. Both sides of my family have quite dark hair along with most of my immediate family members, but the other females do not have this much obvious hair.
Could it be a chemical imballance, or maybe something wrong with what I am eating? (I should add that I do not eat meat or most milk products)
Is there any way to make the hair less noticable or a way to treat it?
Serious answers please.

Editor answers:
Yes it probably is a chemical imbalance. Go in to the doc and see if he can run some tests…. Those tests would determine the meds to give you to help with the imbalances as well as the hair growth.
If no imbalance then I suggest electrolysis, bleaching, and laser hair removal. Start with the easy, cheaper, and insurance covered options first, as sometimes the outside just gives us warnings of something going wrong on the inside.

Donald asks…
body hair???
im 15 and will be 16 in a few weeks. i have alot of body hair and it’s all really dark. i shave but it only lasts for like a day (if that) and it’s too much of a hassle to shave my whole body every single day. is there any safe way to bleach my hair to make it less noticeable with everyday household items?
im a girl by the way

Editor answers:
I think oxygen peroxide will bleach good cuz my sister bleached her hair herself just to make it blond…

Richard asks…
What does my body hair grow astbut the hair on my head grow slow?
Any hair on my body grows REALLY fast. If I pluck my eyebrows they’ll come back in within two days, or if I shave my legs the hair it starting to grow back within an hour. T.T
Yet my normal hair takes forever to grow, and I rarley get my hair cut. Why are they a diffrent ends of the spectrum?
